Program Focus
The purpose of our Grant program is to improve access and reduce financial hardship by
providing direct financial assistance to breast cancer patients in need. Grants will be awarded to
Ohio organizations who can distribute funds to patients to help with emergency living, medical
and transportation assistance.
Grant Guidelines - Who Can Apply?
Our goal is to make the process of applying for a grant from the Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio (BCFO) as
simple as possible. We want to insure that these public funds are used wisely and that the funds reach the
people in need. Nonprofit organizations designated 501(c)(3) by the Internal Revenue Service physically
located in and serving breast cancer patients in the state of Ohio are eligible to apply for a grant.
To apply for a grant, please follow these steps:
Step 1 Determine if you have a program that:
a. does or could provide temporary financial assistance to breast cancer patients currently in treatment
b. provides ongoing education, treatment and/or support to breast cancer patients
c. is a designated 501 c 3 or 501 c 4 non-profit organization by the IRS
d. is physically located and incorporated in, and serving breast cancer patients in the state of Ohio
Step 2 Determine if your program for temporary financial assistance to breast cancer patients would
cover one or more of these services:
transportation to treatment
temporary support of living expenses such as rent / mortgage payments
utility payments
assistance with co-pays, prescriptions or costs for uninsured or underinsured patients
Step 3 Submit a Letter of Inquiry to info@breastcancerfundohio.org. We will determine if your program
matches the guidelines for submission of a grant application.
Step 4 If your program is determined to fit the BCFO guidelines, submit the grant application for review.
Applications will be approved and awards will be announced in early December 2008. Funds will be
released within three weeks of the announcement.
Grantees must be a member in good standing of the Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio.
